Ode to a hated body

Puritan hands:
do you know that you mock yourself?
Not new to a body but afraid of affect,
not virgin to thought but afraid of spoken words.
Heavy eyelids:
do you know that you mock yourself?
You read as your own rude goodbye.
You beg for rude goodbyes.

Bruised knees:
I will sing to you before I hear your stories.
Brave and likely alone.
(The real bravery).
(The real alone).
But he may count on one hand the times you spoke.
